Weekly ceiling = (lodging + meals and incidentals) × 7. On a phone, turn it sideways to see the nightly lodging and meals columns. Seasonal rates show the lowest and highest months. On the first and last day of travel, meals and incidentals are paid at 75%. Alaska and Hawaii are set by the Defense Travel Management Office, not GSA.

The guide

What the GSA rate means for a travel contract

The General Services Administration sets a maximum daily amount for lodging and for meals and incidental expenses (M&IE) in every county of the continental United States. Federal employees are reimbursed up to it. Travel nurse agencies use the same numbers as a benchmark: the tax-free housing and meal stipends in most pay packages are set at or below the GSA rate for the county where the facility is, so the rate works as the ceiling on the tax-free part of what you are offered.

The rate follows the federal fiscal year, which starts October 1. FY2027 rates apply to every day worked from October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, so a contract that starts in September and runs into October crosses two rate years. The standard rate for FY2027 rose from $110 to $113 a night for lodging, while M&IE stayed at $68.

How to use the table

Search for the city or county of the facility, not where you plan to live. If the facility is outside every listed area, the standard rate applies. Where lodging changes by month, the weekly ceiling shows the lowest and highest months; a 13-week contract in a seasonal market can straddle both. To see what a specific offer is worth after tax, put its stipends into the travel nurse stipend calculator.

What the rate does not decide

A stipend is only tax-free if you maintain a qualifying tax home and are duplicating living expenses; the GSA rate sets how much can reasonably be paid, not whether it is taxable. The travel nurse tax guide covers the tax-home test, and contract red flags covers packages that inflate stipends by cutting the taxable hourly rate.

Frequently asked

What is the GSA per diem rate for FY2027?

For October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027, the standard CONUS rate is $113 a night for lodging plus $68 for meals and incidental expenses, $181 a day. 297 cities and counties have a higher rate; the highest peak is Park City, UT, at $499 a night plus $92.

How do travel nurse stipends relate to GSA per diem?

Agencies commonly set tax-free housing and meal stipends at or below the GSA rate for the county where the assignment is, so the GSA figure works as the practical ceiling on the tax-free part of a pay package. The stipends are only tax-free if you maintain a qualifying tax home; see our travel nurse tax guide before relying on them.

How do I find the weekly per diem for my assignment?

Search the table for the city or county of the facility, not where you will live. Weekly figures here are the daily lodging plus meals rate times seven. Where the lodging rate changes by season, the table shows the lowest and highest months.

Why are Alaska and Hawaii not listed?

GSA sets rates for the continental United States. Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories are non-foreign overseas areas whose rates are set by the Defense Department's Defense Travel Management Office.
